Meet the Crew
Mandi Hoyt-McBeth, Owner, Landscape Contractor + Designer
The desire to combine creativity and working outdoors led me down a new career path after 10 years in the nonprofit world as a fundraising and communications manager. Equipped with a certificate in landscape design, I founded Habitat Gardens in 2009. I love working with my clients to create beautiful gardens and outdoor living areas. My approach to landscape design is a collaborative effort, one that blends my experience and plant knowledge with my clients’ individual tastes. As a licensed Landscape Contractor, I also have degrees from Iowa State University in Communications and Environmental Studies.
Justin Timmers, Crew Lead and Installer
Looking for a new environment to settle down in, Justin moved to Oregon from Wisconsin in 2017. As the crew leader of Habitat gardens, Justin possesses a great amount of skill in construction and landscape installation. Coming from a background in farming, where he operated his own CSA in Wisconsin, he brings a great deal of knowledge and a “let’s get this done!” attitude. Now he is committed to making the landscaping dreams a reality for all the creatures calling Portland home.
Ian Cozane, Crew Memeber
Ian was drawn to Oregon by the vast outdoors. With his tiny home trailing behind him, he drove to Oregon in 2016 from southwest Virginia. Ian received his bachelors degree in Humanities, Science, & the Environment from Virginia Tech. He possess a variety of skills and passions, from photography to landscaping. Along with being a crew member of Habitat Gardens, Ian spends his free time cultivating and propagating a variety of medicinal and edible plants.
Whitney Salas, Design Assistant and Crew Memeber
When Whitney moved to Portland in 2001 she was taken aback by the vast amount of biomass and variety of plant diversity that the Pacific Northwest has to hold. This lead her to spending much of her free time exploring the natural world. As her interest in nature progressively deepened, she pursued a bachelor’s degree in Biology and worked as microbiologist for several years. This did not quite fulfill her passion in plants and the outdoors so she decided to take the leap of faith and pursue a new career. Her innate artistic skills and biological knowledge, lead her to Landscape Design. She is currently enrolled in the PCC Landscape Design program and is a crew member and design assistant for Habitat Gardens.
Shane Koehler, Fine Gardening + Installation
Shane has spent most of his life exploring and observing the intricacies of nature. He is a fine artist and environmental issues educator, and has designed, installed, and maintained gardens across the land – from Florida to Oregon.
Jesus Rojas + Eliazer Rojas, Project Support
Jesus is often accompanied by his father who has over 50 years experience working in landscaping!
